1 ROCHESTER
We depart this morning and head North traveling through Pennsylvania and into New York where we spend the night in Rochester.
2 SONNENBERG GARDENS / BELHURST
This morning we visit Sonnenberg Gardens and Mansion State Historic Park. One of the nation’s most extensively preserved Victorian-era country estates. Afterward, we head for Geneva, overlooking beautiful Seneca Lake at the heart of the Finger Lakes region. Here, we will visit the spectacular Belhurst Castle and enjoy a delicious lunch. This evening, we check into the Turning Stone Casino Resort for the night.
3 BLUE MOUNTAIN LAKE / GLENS FALLS
Today, we travel into Adirondack Park to the Blue Mountain Lake. Here, we will visit the Adirondack Experience with it’s more than 20 buildings overlooking scenic Blue Mountain Lake. We can browse the museum, row an authentic guide boat, or even climb a ADK fire tower. Afterward, we make a stop at the Chapman Historical Museum featuring historical artifacts depicting life in Glens Falls during the late 19th century. We will spend the next 2 nights in the Glens Falls area.
4 LAKE GEORGE / SARATOGA SPRINGS
Today begins with a narrated lunch cruise on beautiful Lake George. Experience the best views as you sail north past the Lake George Club and the stately Sagamore Hotel. We also sail past Speaker Heck Island where bald eagles have nested for years! Afterward, we head to Saratoga Springs where a local guide will join us for a tour of this unique upstate New York town.
5 LAKE PLACID
We continue North today making our way to scenic Lake Placid. Here we will be joined by a local guide who will take us through the home of the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics. After lunch, we travel through Adirondack Parks and enjoy the beautiful scenery on our way to the High Peaks region. We spend the night in Clayton, NY.
6 1000 ISLANDS CRUISE / BOLT CASTLE
Today, we Enjoy an intimate boat tour as we travel over 27 unique miles through US and Canadian waters among many of the 1000 Islands along the St. Lawrence River. We view magnificent million-dollar homes, travel under American and Canadian spans of the 1000 Island Bridge System, and pass Rock Island Lighthouse on Rock Island. At Heart Island you will enjoy a self-guided tour of millionaire George Boldt’s Castle, built as a testament of love for his wife Louise, before tragedy struck in 1904. Marvel at life in the “Gilded Age” for the wealthy who built magnificent castles and summer homes on islands as we travel through “Millionaire’s Row” and the St. Lawrence Seaway shipping channel with the possibility of viewing oceangoing vessels that travel from around the world to the Great Lakes of North America. This evening, we make our way down to Syracuse where we will spend the night.
7 HOMEWARD BOUND
Our journey comes to an end today as we travel back through Pennsylvania and into Virginia with memories of the beautiful Finger Lakes Region of New York and the 1000 Islands.
